This has been one of the longest winters I've experienced in recent memory! Was it the harshest in terms of snow and cold? Probably not, but it was mentally tough for me. I doubt that will change much as I get older. I really should try to convince my husband to become "snowbirds" and head south during the winter.

This past year has prompted me to reevaluate many things: my peace, what truly matters to me, where to focus my energy, what to prepare for, and so on. I'm sure this is largely due to losing my last parent in August and dealing with the estate.

But how does this relate to my artwork, you ask?

I've been told all my life that I have a "gift" and should use it to make a living.

That idea never really resonated with me. Something was missing. I could never figure out why I didn't pursue it further.

The conventional and socially accepted methods of selling art aren't within my comfort zone.

Transporting work and props to outdoor art shows is exhausting and can potentially damage your pieces during transit.

Trying to get a gallery's attention by submitting forms and hoping to impress the owners is emotionally draining.

Entering numerous contests for exposure doesn't necessarily lead to sales.

All of these avenues, by the way, can incur costs even before you're considered, with entry fees, booth fees, or both.

And if you're fortunate enough to be selected, almost every show, gallery, or contest will take a commission from your sales, typically around 40-60%.

I haven't entered or tried to enter anything in years! I've been thinking about how to bypass all that and still do what I love.

TikTok has been great for sales. Word of mouth works well for me too. But I still feel like I need to do something extra special with "my gift."

I have a plan... I have an idea... I'm working to make it a reality. It should give my work a purpose and put my art in the hands of those who appreciate it. Stay tuned. Fingers crossed that I can make it happen.
